Sweet Success: Weymouth Libraries Turn Reading Into a Life-Size Adventure
What happens when you combine summer reading goals with everyone's favorite childhood board game? Pure magic at Weymouth’s Tuft Library, who landed in the spotlight for WHDH news this week!
More than 900 kids signed up to participate in the summer reading program, working toward an incredible reward: the chance to play in a life-size Candy Land game complete with inflatable candy canes, gummy bears, and giant cupcakes!
The program was brilliantly simple yet effective. Kids could sign up for the summer reading program and get a little game board that they would fill out so every time they read 15 minutes a day, they would fill in a square. Once they completed their reading objectives, they earned their ticket to this sweet adventure.
Library Director Amy Rosa captured the excitement perfectly, noting how "They've been coming in, showing us their progress, and entering the daily raffle prizes. And of course all of them have been looking into this space, waiting for this to happen."
The life-size game is currently on display and will be available for kids to play until Aug. 23. It's a fantastic example of how creative programming can make reading irresistible for young minds.
Here at the Weymouth Libraries Foundation, we’re proud to continue supporting innovative programs like this one, and we're excited to share that we're currently in the process of funding a refresh for the Children's room to create an even more inviting space for young readers and their families. Stay tuned for more updates!
