Town of Weymouth Receives New Computers for Fogg Library Through State Grant

Fogg Library will soon be home to a brand-new public computer lab, thanks to a successful grant award from the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI).
Through the MBI's Connected & Online Program, the Town of Weymouth has been awarded 50 new laptops, 25 desktop computers, five printers, and five indoor Wi-Fi access points. This equipment will dramatically expand digital access for Weymouth residents.
The desktop computers will create Fogg Library's first-ever computer room at 1 Columbian Street, while the new laptops will allow Tufts Library to expand its Library of Things program, enabling residents to borrow devices for remote work, telehealth appointments, online learning, and other essential needs.
"This program allows us to meet residents where they are," said Library Director Amy Rosa. "It significantly expands the technology resources available at Tufts Library and creates a first-of-its-kind computer room at Fogg Library, greatly improving services for residents in South Weymouth."
In today's digital age, access to technology is no longer a luxury—it's a necessity. From job applications to healthcare appointments, many essential services now require internet access and digital literacy. This grant ensures that all Weymouth residents, regardless of their personal resources, can access the technology they need.
Our Role
This successful grant award exemplifies the type of initiative the Weymouth Libraries Foundation exists to support. While we celebrate this win for our community, we also recognize that not every funding opportunity comes through, and that's where we step in.
Our mission is to ensure that our libraries have the resources they need to serve our community, whether through grant funding, private donations, or Foundation support. When gaps exist, we work to bridge them, ensuring equitable access to library services and resources for all Weymouth residents.
Looking Ahead
As the Connected & Online Program rolls out over the coming months, residents can look forward to enhanced technology access at both Fogg and Tufts Libraries. We encourage community members to visit the Town of Weymouth website for updates as this project progresses.
Congratulations to Mayor Molisse, Library Director Amy Rosa, and the entire library team on securing this important funding. This is what community investment looks like, and we're proud to support libraries that continue to evolve and meet the changing needs of our residents.
